Brawler fans rejoice! Smash Legends, from publisher LINE Games and developer 5minlab, is limbering up to step into the ring, and it looks like a fantastic casual twist on the genre.

Right off the bat we love the game’s cartoony aesthetic and its diverse array of colorful characters. The whole thing has a fairytale-inspired look, and takes place in the intriguing-sounding Library World – a realm beyond the clouds where stories gather.

Various story characters pass through Library World on their way to new adventures, but conflicts and disputes have prevented this literary wellspring from creating new stories. The only solution is to channel the violence into matches with rules, allowing order to return.

So, you’re fighting for the future of storytelling. No pressure.

Smash Legends takes its cues from a range of awesome PvP games. The core gameplay sees you trying to knock your competitors out of an arena ring in frantic three-minute battles, viewing the fighty action from a novel top-down perspective.

FIIIIIIGHT!

To join one of these battles, you just need to log-in and head to the lobby. The game’s matchmaking system will do the rest, throwing you into the arena with evenly matched opponents and letting you duke it out for glory.

Smash Legends supports cross-play, too, so you could find yourself facing off against a PC-playing rival. The UI has been designed to suit each platform, but no matter what device you’re playing on the controls are super-simple and streamlined.

This means that touchscreen input is every bit as effective as keyboard and mouse. It also means you’ll be in with a fighting chance even if you’re an absolute beginner.

Success in Smash Legends is all about managing your HP. The lower it goes, the higher your chances of being evicted from the arena. But don’t worry – you can return to the fray once you’ve been thrown out, depending on your ringed-out distance.

There’s a Wide Variety of Modes

There are six different modes to choose from. Duel is a straightforward 1v1 mode where you take on a single opponent in a best-of-five-rounds match. Dominion, meanwhile, is a 3v3 mode in which you have to take and protect capture points for as long as you can.

Then there’s Team Deathmatch, a simple 3v3 race to rack up ten kills, and FFA Battle Royale, an eight-player free for all where the last player standing wins.

Crown Guard is another 3v3 mode. The goal in this one is to kill the other team’s leader three times, while the four-player Harvest mode sees you harvesting fruits by destroying mandrakes. Much more wholesome.

There are eight playable characters – or Legends – in Smash Legends, including novel twists on well known fairy-tale characters. They each come with their own unique backstory, as well as their own strengths and weaknesses in battle.

Once you’ve added one of these Legends to your roster you’ll be able to strengthen and customize them, too, ensuring that everybody has their own personalized squad to play with

Smash Legends is a hugely promising prospect, and we can’t wait to get our hands on it when it launches in the first half of this year on the App Store, the Google Play Store, and Steam.

The end of the year is coming up quick, which means it’s time to stop thinking about the past and start thinking about the future. Or more accurately, it’s time to start thinking about the most exciting mobile games that are going to be coming out next year.

So that’s exactly what we’ve done. And we’ve done it in list form, because that’s the sort of thing that people on the internet love. And we reckon there’s going to be something on the list that’s going to tickle your fancy, whether you’re into massive games, little games or something in between.

If you think we’ve missed something from the list, then feel free to let us know in the comments section at the bottom of the article. Before that, though, here are the most exciting upcoming games for iPhone, iPad and Android.

Click here for more lists about the best and most popular games for iPhone, iPad and Android

Diablo Immortal

The more we hear about Diablo Immortal, the more excited we get about it. Set between the second and third games in the series, it looks like it’s going to bring the full Diablo experience to the palm of your hand. Massive, violent and chock full of monsters and loot – what’s not to love?

Crash Bandicoot: On the Run!

It’s been a pretty good few years for Crash Bandicoot. And the resurgence of the 90’s icon continues with his first steps into the mobile world. The game looks like it’s going to be similar to Temple Run, but faster, crazier and with a whole bunch of boss battles thrown in for good measure.

Warhammer 40,000: Lost Crusade

An MMO RTS (think Clash of Clans et al) set in the grim dark future of Games Workshop’s sci-fi universe. Build up your battle barge, train up your warriors and mash the living bejeebus out of everything that moves.

Dragon Quest Tact

A gorgeous-looking tactical RPG set in the Dragon Quest world. Build up a team of monsters and heroes and take down all-comers. It looks like it’s going to put a big smile on your face and fill up hours and hours of your life.

Stellar Hunter

A neat looking idle-ish RPG with roguelike elements that sees you exploring the depths of the universe after a spaceship crash. There’s some awesome looking monsters, plenty of loot to collect and loads more to sink your teeth into.

Inked

This one’s been a smash-hit on PC, and we reckon it’s going to be just as much fun when it comes out for mobile. A puzzling adventure with a gorgeous art-style, you’re going to fall in love with Inked when it lands on mobile.

Oceanhorn: Chronos Dungeon

A retro-style dungeon crawler with a focus on local multiplayer. Set in the world of Oceanhorn, you’ll battle your way through enemies, grab a load of loot, and randomized modifiers make every level and experience unique.

Tomb Raider Reloaded

We don’t have loads of info on this one, but it’s Tomb Raider, it’s coming to mobile and it looks pretty cool. There’s a T-rex in the trailer, and everything looks cute and bobbleheaded. What’s not to like?

NeiR Reincarnation

It’s been delayed a few times already, but we’re expecting this mobile version of the hack-and-slasher to land early in 2021. Quite what we can expect from the game itself remains to be seen. But we reckon it’s going to be bonkers one way or another.

The Witcher: Monster Slayer

Think Pokemon GO, but set in the Witcher universe. There are freakish monsters to hunt, quests to complete and plenty more in this AR adventure. Get out of the house and swing a sword around but, y’know, digitally.

Spyjinx

A new game from Epic and, er, JJ Abrams? It sees you controlling some spies, sending them on missions and building up a base. It all looks pretty cool, and we imagine it’ll be a lot of fun to play as well.

Just Cause Mobile

It’s Just Cause, but in the palm of your hand. Expect lots of explosions, lots of silly violence, and plenty of co-op and multiplayer fun. Hopefully this one is going to capture the exuberance of the console and PC games.

What do you want from a mobile shooter? Well, if you’re anything like us you want responsive controls, gorgeous graphics, frantic action and games that it only takes a few seconds to jump into. Dino Squad, the upcoming prehistoric blaster from the dev behind War Robots, certainly looks like it’s going to tick all of those boxes.

The game is currently in beta on iOS and Android, and we’ve played a big chunk of the pre-launch version. The game sees you taking control of a dinosaur that’s armed to the teeth with enormous weapons. You’re in a team with other players and the aim of the game is to capture towers.

The more towers you’re in control of, the more points you’re going to score. It’s not just a case of standing in the right spot though – you need to shoot towers to wrest them from the control of the other team. When a tower is yours, it’ll heal you when you stand within its ring.

There are different dinosaurs to chose from, though you can only take a drop team of three into a fight – a small, medium and large. Different dinosaurs have different roles.

Our current favourite is the nippy raptor. It’s got a shotgun on its back and its special move involves charging at an enemy and biting it – not only does the attack do damage, it heals you as well.

The action is super fast and brutal, and the controls are some of the slickest we’ve ever used. Movement is precise, and the shooting and special move buttons are easily within reach.

Oh, and on top of that the game looks amazing. Every battle pops, from the explosions to the character models. The upgrade system is smart too, with your dinos getting tougher and more fearsome the more work you put in.

Dino-might

There might be a bit too much grind for more seasoned players, and some will baulk at the free to play model, but in all honesty it’s one of the best we’ve seen.

Dino Squad is shaping up to be one of the best mobile games of 2020. It’s fast and fierce, it’s full of explosions and dinosaurs and it’s difficult not to play with a smile on your face.

2020 looks like it could be the year of the MMO on mobile. There are so many amazing games coming out before December that MMO fans really should be salivating about the potential their iPhone, iPad or Android device has to offer.

But what are these games? Well, we’ve rounded up the best ones in this list. There are some classic franchises, some new entries to the mobile canon and plenty more. Basically if you like playing with loads of other people from the comfort of the palm of your hand, there’s definitely going to be something here that’s going to tickle your fancy.

Think we’ve missed anything out? Then feel free to stick your suggestions in the comment section at the bottom of the article. Let us know which of the games on our list you’re most excited about too. Hell, just let us know anything, we love it when you talk to us. Now though, let’s bash out a list.

Ragnarok Origin

There are loads of Ragnarok Online games on the horizon, with plenty of them headed to mobile too. This one looks to be the cream of the crop though, with snazzy graphics and a focus on what made the series so great in the first place. It’s cute, there’s hours and hours of content to get lost in, and it’s coming to a phone near you this year.

Warhammer: Odyssey

A fantasy MMO built from the ground up for mobile that utilises the vast canon of Games Workshop’s swords and sorcery line. Expect angry dwarves, loads of skeletons and goblins, and much much more when the game lands in 2020.

Dragon Nest 2

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CKkmJ4R11EE

Dragon Nest M already made it onto our list of the best MMOs that are available for mobile right now, so it shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise to see its sequel here. Expect more dungeons and more combat-heavy action when this one lands later in the year.

Runescape Mobile

Oldschool Runescape has been out for a year or so on mobile now, and while RS members can get into the beta for this one on Android, we’re still waiting for a universal release. Hopefully it shouldn’t be too much longer – then you’ll be able to get all of the most modern version of one of the most popular MMOs ever on your phone. That’s pretty darn amazing if you ask us.

Diablo Immortal

Okay, so this one isn’t technically an MMO, but it’s got enough MMO clothes that it fits quite nicely here. Diablo is all about tromping through dungeons, murdering everything that moves and upgrading your equipment. Get some friends involved and you’re not that far away from what makes the MMO tick. This one looks amazing, and we’re really excited to get our hands on it despite the backlash surrounding its announcement.

Eve: Echoes

A sandbox MMO set in the Eve universe that has ramifications for the main game. Eve has always been one of the most interesting, influential and original MMOs out there, and while other attempts to put a version of the game on a different platform haven’t gone brilliantly, there’s enough buzz around Eve: Echoes that it’s definitely worth looking out for. Plus it’s set in space, and space is awesome.

Aion 2

A direct sequel to a PC smash hit, Aion 2 is NCSoft’s next foray into the mobile MMO. We’ve known about this one for nearly a couple of years now, but it’s inching closer to release. If NCSoft gets it right, this could be one of the biggest mobile MMOs of recent years.

Ni No Kuni: Cross Worlds

Of course you’re excited that there’s a Ni No Kuni MMO coming out, because why wouldn’t you be? This gorgeous looking game is sure to set a few fan’s hearts pounding when it comes out this year. So far only an eastern release has been mentioned, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see this one coming west at all.

Naruto Slugfest

An MMO set in the Naruto universe with a focus on punching other players and enemies in the face? We mean, really, what more do you want? Expect this one to be a massive hit with Naruto fans, but even if you’re not an aficionado of the series there’ll be a lot here for you to enjoy. Like the punching, for example.

Summoners War: Chronicles

This one takes the shape of Summoners Wars and builds it up into a fully fledged real time MMO. Expect giant battles, lots of loot, and a story set 70 years before the events of Summoners War: Sky Arena. We reckon this one is going to be an awful lot of fun.

Minecraft Earth is a brand new Minecraft experience that’s exclusive to mobile. It challenges you to wander around a blocky version of the real world, collecting resources, going on adventures with friends, and, most importantly, building stuff using the power of AR.

We’ve managed to get early access to the upcoming Pokémon GO-like experience, so we thought we’d put together our early thoughts and impressions to give those of you that can’t play it right now a taste of what to expect.

When we first booted up the app, we signed into our Microsoft account, which synced things up nicely. We then got an opportunity to create our own character out of a bunch of different cosmetic options. We could tweak our hair, beard, clothes, and more. Most options were provided for free but there were premium options that we ignored for now.

Then… we were flung into the experience with very little idea of what to do. This is our first, and biggest, criticism of Minecraft Earth so far: there’s a real lack of tutorial and it’s not an entirely obvious experience. We didn’t know what a Buildplate was, or what an adventure entailed. Sure, there’s fun to be had from discovering everything for yourself but a little direction wouldn’t have hurt.

Minecraft Earth is a Well Put Together Game That Does a Good Job of Providing a Micro-Minecraft Experience

Fortunately, given that we’ve played Pokémon GO before, we had some idea of what to do. We tapped on stuff that was highlighted around the neighbourhood and managed to gather a bunch of resources. These were mostly pretty standard Minecraft rocks, dirt, and sticks but we were pleased to get our hands on a few farmyard animals.

The animations are all terrific too. Minecraft Earth runs incredibly smoothly and we were actually encouraged to tap on stuff because it was so satisfying to collect everything.

We wanted to dig into the bulk of the experience and, you know, get to building stuff so we started tapping on stuff to see what happened. Quite quickly, we discovered our Buildplate. This uses the power of AR to allow you to place your own miniature Minecraft world anywhere in your genuine surroundings.

It really does feel like a miniature version of Minecraft. You can tap on stuff to break it down, collecting the resources, and place stuff you’ve crafted into the miniature world. Crafting takes place in a separate interface and functions similarly to how it does in Minecraft. You follow a bunch of recipes to create materials, buildings, furniture, and more. Then, you can place it on your Buildplate.

The best part about your Buildplate is that you can take it anywhere. You can customise it in your house and then take it to a friend’s and show it off. You can even invite a friend to help build it with you. It’s a very collaborative experience that provides a micro taste of Minecraft.

Our Only Real Complaint is That it Doesn’t do a Great Job of Walking You Through the Basics

Each day you get a series of challenges you can complete for extra rewards. They’re all relatively simple to beat, and generally involve doing what you’d already be doing anyway. It also encourages you to do stuff that you might not have otherwise done, like complete an Adventure or two.

These also use AR to provide you with micro-Minecraft adventures. They can provide you with the rarest resources in the game, so it’s definitely worth doing these as often as you can. You can bring a friend along for the ride too, and battle monsters and break down resources together. The best part is that whatever you or a friend collect is shared with everyone.

Our early impressions of Minecraft Earth are pretty positive. It’s a well put together game that does a good job of providing a micro-version of the genuine experience. It’s good looking, runs smoothly, and provides a wide variety of activities you can perform.

At this point, our only real complaint is the lack of guidance during the early hours. It could benefit from a brief tutorial that walks you quickly through the basics so you can hit the ground running.

There’s no shortage of Asian RPGs on mobile, but Webzen’s MU Origin is a standout example. A spinoff of the classic isometric RPG MU Online, it was an instant classic when it hit the mobile app stores a couple of years ago.

So it’s no surprise that Webzen has followed it up with MU Origin 2, which arrived in China and South Korea earlier this year to great acclaim. Now the game is making its way towards the west.

We don’t have a firm global release date for MU Origin 2, but Webzen has just announced that players in North and South America will be able to sample its delights through a closed beta that will run from March 29th to April 7th.

The beta will be exclusively in English, and – sorry iOS gamers – exclusively on Android, but it will give a lucky few the chance to experience pretty much everything the game has to offer.

Beta MU than me

After choosing your character – Dark Knight, Dark Wizard, or Elf – you’ll be able to join a guild for co-operative hijinks, create a party for conquering the living daylights out of a few dungeons, and battle with human opponents either in teams or 1v1.

You’ll also be able to adopt a pet, which will attack your enemies for you during fights – just like a real pet. And, because MU Origin 2 will take place on a huge map, you’ll be able to acquire a mount to make journeys shorter.

The vast majority of the finished game will be present in the beta, but be warned – everything you do during that handful of days will be lost as soon as the beta comes to an end.

However, if you reach level 150 and fill out a survey you’ll get a coupon that you can use in the finished game, so that’s something.

MU Origin 2 will be out soon, for free, in Europe as well as the Americas, on iOS and Android. Get involved in the closed beta by visiting the official website here.

Tencent Games has finally taken the next step in their global conquest of Esports. This time, their focus is to capitalise on the ever-growing mobile gaming community. How is Tencent planning on making history with PUBG Mobile? A massive global tournament of course!

Did you say tournament?

That’s right, this year marks the debut for the PUBG Mobile Club Open. A competition designed to find the best PUBG Mobile squad on earth. Players will have to enter regional’s which is split into eleven categories. The categories include; North America, South America, Europe, India, South East Asia, Middle East, China, Korea, Japan and Wildcard.

The Wildcard category is to cover any land-masses not explicitly mentioned in the categories above. So do not panic if you are based somewhere remote like Madagascar, you’ll still have a chance to enter and win.

Once these regional tournaments have finished, the winners can meet up and fight for the win in the Club Open Global Finals. The finalists will compete for the lion share of $2 million dollars, so it’s fair to say it will be a no expense spared finale.

Who can enter and what are the rules?

This tournament is not as exclusive as it sounds, in fact, it’s trying to bring the PUBG Mobile community together. With that being said, it would be unrealistic to assume every single player can enter. There are a few rules and limitations that may affect your eligibility, all of which are listed below.

A player under the legal age of majority in his or her country of residence, but older than 16 years of age (i.e. having lived for at least 16 calendar years after date of birth) as of the Tournament start date may participate with consent from parents or legal guardians.

  • No fewer than 3 players must be from the same region they register in.
  • All players must be ranked Platinum or above at the time of registration.
  • No Roster Changes after registration has been submitted.
  • Crew Rosters must be a minimum of 4 players and no more than 5 players with one player being a substitute player.
  • Substitute players may be swapped out in between matches.
  • Results for the Qualification Round will be based on your results in the game. So please make sure you create a Crew with the same name after successfully completing registration.
  • Designate a Crew Leader (Team captain) for all tournament communications.
  • All games will be in TPP Squad Mode.
  • Registration period: 2019-03-08 03:00 (UTC) – 2019-03-18 22:00 (UTC)
  • Registration for China, Japan and Korea will be announced at a later date. Please do not register on this site at the moment.
  • Players may participate in Tournaments (both in Online Events and at LAN Events) only on mobile phone handheld devices. Players may not play on tablets, personal computers (PC), consoles, laptops, or any other non-handheld device.

To summarise the list above, you should be above the age of 16, be ranked higher than Platinum and have at least two other players based in the same region as you. Another important rule to note is the ban of tablets, which most Youtubers/streamers use when broadcasting their gameplay.

How do I register?

If you click the link here, you will find everything you need to know about registering. Make sure you spell everyone’s names correctly and that when you set up a squad, you use the same name you gave when registering.

You want to play as many games as possible as they consider your best results and ranked for the tournament stage. If you’d like to know more about the event then click here.

With the New Year introductions finally behind us, we can look forward to what 2019 has already promised to deliver. One particular promise that has us Marvel Strike Force fans excited is the introduction of three new characters and some changes to the Blitz mode. Ok, that’s enough of an introduction, let’s get into it.

Three new characters

Unsurprisingly, there has been a lot of speculation what characters will blast their way onto our screens. As of yet nobody knows with 100% certainty what characters they will introduce, but we have good hunches.

A pretty much-guaranteed addition into the roster is Carnage. Although Carnage is not confirmed he seems accepted across the Marvel Strike Force Subreddit. The other two characters they could add in the next update are rumoured to be Okoye and Killmonger.

Just to clarify, these are only rumours and people’s best guesses. They could surprise us with the addition of a couple members of the Fantastic 4 being included instead.

Blitz Changes

Anyone who has been playing in the Blitz game mode since introducing red stars has probably been annoyed at several features, or should I say lack of. Well, worry no more as it seems like our prayers will be answered in the next update.

  • Introducing a Blitz Tier Indicator. If you have been playing Blitz, then you’ll know all about the frustration of keeping track of what Tier you are in. So you won’t have to remember if you completed 6.1 or 6.2.
  • The ability to see your opponent’s stars and red stars. It’s likely that throughout your time in Blitz you have to set up against an opponent in a certain way because of the characters they have chosen. You have then gotten into the fight and seen that these characters are way more powerful than you expected. Well, in the next update you will see how many stars your opponent’s characters have before it’s too late. This means you can set up your team in confidence knowing you haven’t underestimated your opponent.

As well as the changes mentioned above, there will also be Guardians Updates and a new Event Campaign. I don’t have any more details as yet, but we at Gamezebo will keep you up to date as soon as we know more.
