In Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery, your professors love to quiz you on facts about the Harry Potter universe. In most lessons, you’ll have to deal with energy-burning action sections where you tap on different objects around the room to progress, broken up by brief segments where you must either tap a circle at the correct time to focus, or answer a question correctly.

For each quiz, you’ll be asked one question at a time to progress, with bonus experience as the reward. If you answer incorrectly, you’ll have to expend even more energy to finish the lesson, and given the already slow pace of the game, no one wants that. You want to get the right answers every time. Don’t worry if you get one wrong–it’s an energy loss, but you won’t have to redo the lesson or otherwise be penalized.

Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery

Each of your three classes in your first year has a different set of questions it can pull from, and not all are necessarily related to the lesson you’re in. Some of them will ask basic Harry Potter and magic facts you can glean from the game, but if you’re not up on your Harry Potter lore, you may find yourself struggling to answer some of the more obscure ones. We’ve taken as many questions as we could discover in each of your three first-year classes: Potions, Charms, and Flying, and given you the answers so you can proceed.

Do note that these do not include friendship questions for conversations with characters like Rowan. To master those, you’ll need both high skills in certain areas and an understanding of the character. Check out our friendship guide for more on these interactions. Note too that this is just a guide for your first year at Hogwarts. Because the game gates you with energy and a slower pace, we haven’t gotten to the second year yet! You’ll have to brush up on your book and film lore alongside us to conquer later classes.

Niantic has been adding shinies to Pokemon GO at a rapid clip. Every Community Day, we get a new shiny in the books with its evolutions, and most events come with shinies as well. The most recent event, Earth Day, is no exception. As a reward for cleaning up communities on Earth Day, Niantic has implemented multiple rewards, including adding shiny Wailmer and Wailord to the game.

But how can you capture a shiny Wailmer? Let us help:

pokemon go shiny wailmer

Wait, what happened on Earth Day?

Earth Day was April 22, and on that day, Niantic hosted an event to encourage players to clean up their communities in partnership with Mission Blue. By working with Mission Blue and local NGOs, players gathered to capture Pokemon and participate in select clean-up events in certain cities. As a reward, Niantic promised certain bonuses for the following days that included a boost in Ground, Water, and Grass-type Pokemon captures (more Stardust and increased spawns). But there was a special reward that they didn’t mention.

Niantic also added shiny Wailmer and Wailord to the game. Then, they extended the bonuses and rewards through April 30. Though the bonuses will go away when the calendar flips into May, Wailmer will presumably still be available after the event, though his rarity will increase. Due to more water-type spawns at the moment, a shiny Wailmer should be easier to find, so get out there while you can!

Why do I care about a shiny Wailmer?

Shiny Wailmer is a purple version of Wailmer, and his evolution, Wailord, is also purple. These Pokemon don’t have any special stats or abilities; they’re just an odd color. There are other shiny Pokemon in the game as well, such as Pikachu and Magikarp. Like Wailmer, their shininess is only a cosmetic thing, but they’re also incredibly rare.

If you’re a shiny hunter or just love Wailmer, you should consider pursuing a shiny. Just know that it could take a very long time to find one, and you’ll have to chase every Wailmer you see.

pokemon go shiny wailmer

How do I catch shiny Pokemon?

Shiny Wailmer, like other shiny Pokemon, is a very rare spawn. You can’t see its shininess on the overworld–it only appears once you enter an encounter with any Wailmer. Fortunately, they have no special abilities and are not any stronger than regular Pokemon, so you can tackle it with the same techniques you’d use for any other water-type Pokemon like it.

Since Wailmer is a pure water-type Pokemon, it will be boosted (give more stardust and have a higher spawn rate) for the remainder of the Earth Day event. You can also get boosts by pursuing Wailmer on rainy days, when the Pokemon has a weather boost to help it appear more often.

Look in areas that already have water, such as lakes, rivers, or by the sea. Locations with a closer proximity to water are likely locations for Wailmer “nests”, or places where Wailmer will reliably congregate. If you’re definitely after a shiny Wailmer, be sure to coordinate with a group in your area that is also playing to see if they know where you should look.

What about Wailord?

Wailord is Wailmer’s evolution, and it’s better if you evolve it from Wailmer given how rare a Wailord is to capture in the wild. Wailmer takes a whopping 400 candies to evolve, but never fear. You just need one shiny Wailmer and as many other regular Wailmer as you can capture in order to make this happen.

Check out our guide to all the shiny Pokemon in Pokemon GO with tips on how to capture them. Good luck out there, trainers!

Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery can be a frustrating time. So much of the game is gated behind timers that you’ll want to pay out for microtransactions all the time. Don’t do it! You don’t have to. It will take a little patience and exploration, but you can still navigate the halls of Hogwarts without paying a cent. Follow these tips to keep playing Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery entirely for free.

harry potter hogwarts mystery

Lend me your energy

Energy is the most precious commodity in the game. You need energy to do basically anything in Hogwarts Mystery, but you run out of it so quickly, it can get so frustrating you’ll want to spend money. What the game doesn’t tell you is that there’s free energy all over the place!

Lots of areas in Hogwarts will reward you with free energy if you tap on them. Paintings, statues, and other set pieces scattered in hallways or around the school will give you a free energy for tapping on them. You’ll have to discover these as you play and unlock new areas, so we recommend tapping on everything you see.

One guaranteed source of free energy is the school’s house elf population. Any time you see a house elf, tap on it for a free energy refill. House elves can appear randomly as you explore the school, so if you’re ever bored and don’t know what to do while waiting for a timer, look around for hidden energy stores and house elves.

Choose carefully

Choosing rewards from finishing activities is one of the most important things you can do to decide how you want to progress in the game. When you finish a lesson or another task, you may be offered a choice of rewards. You might be able to advance your Courage, Empathy, or Knowledge, or there may be a gold, energy, or gem reward. Which do you choose?

Gems should always be your first choice, as they’re the hardest to come by, followed by energy. Gold is a good choice if you want to save for cosmestic rewards, but you get so little that it doesn’t always matter. You’re better off leveling up skills. You can get as little as five points to a skill or as many as 40 or perhaps even more. If you see yourself offered a large amount of experience in one of your skill points, go for that first! Also keep an eye out for large quantities of gold (100+). These are rare, and worth pursuing.

Plan ahead

Your lessons are an important way to earn gold and other rewards, so you want to make sure you’re doing them as efficiently as possible. You never want to fail a lesson, as you’ll lose house points, and you also want to make sure that you’re not sitting idle while waiting for timers. If you’re bored, go see what lessons you can do!

That said, if a lesson is short or story-based, don’t start it unless you have full energy. You can afford to start 8-hour lessons with lower energy, because you have plenty of time to build it up and still get a maximum amount of stars if you consistently check in. Try to always do eight-hour lessons. Eight hours doesn’t mean it takes eight hours, it just means you have more to do and need more energy to do it.

For shorter lessons, try to always start them with full energy. If you must, step away from the game for a bit, then return for full energy. Shorter lessons can usually be done with a single full energy bar (or close to it), so you’ll be as good as set if you’re already full up. You won’t feel the need to buy more energy, and you’ll earn rewards to help you avoid paying for other things later.

harry potter hogwarts mystery

Level up!

Finally: keep playing! The more you play, the higher your level will grow. Leveling up gives you rewards and also completely restore your energy. Sometimes, this is just the boost you need to get through a tough stage.

Hang in there, save your gems, and don’t spend a dime on Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery! You won’t be able to instantly finish every lesson if you do, but you’ll still be able to enjoy and experience the entire game. Learn more about how you can earn house points and start playing the game in our guide.

Love Balls is like Scribblenauts and Kirby and the Rainbow Curse had a weird, Freudian slip of a baby. In this game, you attempt to reunite two colored balls by drawing lines to move them toward one another. At first, this just involves pushing them down ramps or making ramps for them to move toward one another. But as the levels progress, you get obstacles, gaps, and other puzzles to solve that make it very difficult to get the balls together without one of them falling off the screen.

But you can do it with a little patience, persistence, and help from us. Here’s a guide on how to unite the balls of Love Balls, forever (I can’t believe I just wrote that sentence):

love balls

Watch that ink

It’s not explained, but the bar at the top is how much ink you can use to solve the puzzle. You have the entire bar before you have to restart, but by using even less, you can earn 1, 2, or 3 stars on each level. Your first time around, you probably will only get 2 stars max. But you can repeat levels as often as you like to take a crack at getting 3 stars. Once you understand how the puzzle works, it’s easy to minimize your line drawing. Give it a try!

Don’t be afraid to experiment

You don’t have a limited amount of tries at stages or anything, and there’s a restart button right in the top right corner. Use the dang thing! If you’re stuck or the lines just aren’t turning out, start over. You can even leave the current stage you’re on, replay old ones any time, or go forward and play upcoming stages if what you’re doing isn’t jiving.

I don’t generally recommend the latter option, as the stages in Love Balls typically progress in such a way that you learn as you go. But Love Balls is very much a game in which you can follow your star. Throw lines out there, move the balls around, and see what works and what doesn’t. Often, on some of the later stages, such strategies will be necessary just to understand how lines and balls work together. Get experimental!

love balls

Lines have weight

In some of the later stages, you might find it difficult to get the balls to land just where you want them to. One trick I’ve found handy, especially when the stage has a block that acts as a fulcrum, is to remember that lines have weight. If you can get two balls on the same line, you can drop smaller lines onto one side to tip the scale and roll the balls in a certain direction. This can get precarious if there are a lot of gaps, but you can also hook the edges of lines around platforms to stabilize them on a certain side.

The more you play, the more accustomed you’ll become to how lines interact with platforms, weight, and the physics of the game. As before, keep practicing.

love balls

Keeping up momentum

One last thing to remember in Love Balls is that sometimes, the answer isn’t one line. Sometimes it’s a lot of small lines, well-placed. In stages with gaps you learn early to catch your falling balls before they crash in the pit, but that can train you to forget that short lines are also effective. If you’re just struggling to get through a stage, nevermind 3-star it, you can use a large line to catch both balls if needed, then use small lines to propel them toward one another however you can.

Keep those balls rolling to reunion!

Cast your line, bait your hook…wait, not in that order. Go fishing! Fishing Strike is one of the best fishing games out there right now, featuring a plethora of fishing locations and fish to catch, boats to collect and upgrade, and anglers to join you on your fishing quest. With the quintessential gems and gold available for those who want to pay into microtransactions, you might be daunted. Do you need to pay to win?

Heck. No. Fishing Strike can be played entirely for free. And it’s easy, too, because the game offers ample opportunity to collect its currencies. Here’s everything you need to know to play for free in Fishing Strike:

Fishing Strike

Log in daily

Fishing Strike is heavy on the daily rewards, which makes it incredibly satisfying just to hop in for a moment and get rewards. There are daily item rewards, rewards through the mail, and a free opportunity to get a chest every day that can include Angler licenses, gold, and more. I can’t emphasize enough how important it is to keep on this, as the rewards in Fishing Strike are just too good to miss even one day. This is the easiest way to collect goodies in the entire game.

Fishing Strike

Do all the things!

Gold and gems are plentiful in Fishing Strike even just through playing the content. Completing quests, progressing through the campaign, doing special stages, and even replaying old levels can net you tons of gold, gems, and other items. Quests and campaign rewards stack up quickly, so keep an eye on what you can accomplish in each new stage as it unlocks. Do every special stage that appears whenever you can, as you can get rare or legendary fish that can net you good chest rewards later on.

You should also make an effort to complete your Fish List and catch at least one of everything the game wants you to. By doing this, you can collect Toys for your tank, which will net you rewards in the long-term. Don’t forget you have multiple tanks, so you can put a toy or more in each tank instead of having to replace toys every time you get a new one.

Finally, try replaying levels if you’re ever stuck. You can get bigger fish by replaying later and sell extra fish for rewards.

Fishing Strike

What goes in my tank?

Your tank can be a major source of income; it’s not just a fish aquarium. But it’s not immediately obvious how you should use it. Your tank is a place to grow fish you catch rather than selling them immediately. Once they grow to their maximum size, they will reward you with gold or even chests, if the fish is rare.

If you can help it, avoid selling fish. If you must, sell the cheap ones and keep the good ones. Then, let those good ones grow, take the rewards, and sell them once you’ve collected. This keeps a steady stream of fish going in and out of your tank, so you should rarely, if ever, have to upgrade your tank. Upgrading your tank costs gems, and those are gems you need for other things in Fishing Strike.

Fishing Strike

Cut that bait

Your fishing net is another great use of your energy, but you might balk at the high cost of bait. Don’t. Cut bait is expensive and costs gems, but it’s a worthwhile long-term investment. You have a good chance with cut bait of catching legendary fish, which can then be dropped in the tank to net you hundreds of gems right back. It’s a bit of a gamble, but largely a good one.

If you’re not sure, at least get the cheap bait and give it a try. Happy fishing!

My Tamagotchi Forever is a free game stuffed with ads and microtransactions, but it has a delightful secret: you really don’t ever need to pay money to enjoy it, at all. There are two forms of currency in My Tamagotchi Forever: Coins and Gems. Gems, the more expensive of the two, are almost worthless. They allow you to unlock certain things early if you like, but you’ll eventually get everything you want through playing the game over time. A bit of patience will get you there.

Coins are a bit stickier, and you’ll need a lot of them to progress past certain milestones. You don’t need to trade Gems for Coins, though. Here’s everything you can do to make sure you earn enough Coins to never have to spend real money in My Tamagotchi Forever:

my tamagotchi forever

Play minigames daily

My Tamagotchi Forever’s minigames can earn you coins as long as your pets have energy to play them, so play as much as you can. If you’re strapped for time, you can focus only on finishing whatever the daily challenge is for the coin reward. I recommend doing that and, instead of petting your Tamagotchi when it’s bored, engaging in a quick game instead. It takes a bit longer, but it actually pays off.

Check in constantly

My Tamagotchi Forever can get a bit exasperating with all its push notifications, but if you really want to play for free, suck it up and turn them on. Check in with your pet and take care of its needs whenever it asks, as soon as it asks.

Aside from just making a pet happy, this is important because the faster your pet levels up, the faster you level up. And every time you level up, you get rewards: gems, coins, and other things. Level up rewards can be the biggest chunks of change you acquire in My Tamagotchi Forever, so make sure your pets are always attended to so that they keep pouring in.

my tamagotchi forever

Check Tama Town

Tama Town may not seem all that interesting, since anything you could want to do there can be accessed from the menu. But it has one key feature: sometimes, rewards will appear. You can see gift boxes floating above Tamagotchi heads that, when tapped, net 2000 coins or a whopping 4000 if you watch the ad. It goes without saying: get these!

These rewards appear fairly frequently, you just need to check in as often as possible to ensure you don’t miss them. Look for a “!” symbol above the neighborhood so you’ll know something new has appeared.

Shower regularly

I’m not joking. Showering is important! It’s especially important for Tamagotchis, who get dirty just like people do. Showering cleans them off and also gives you coins based on how much dirt you removed, up to a maximum of 20 coins.

It’s not a lot, but if you stay on top of it, you can make a few extra hundred coins a day. Wash behind the ears and make sure your Tamagotchis are always clean. Like leveling up, you lose out on speed by ignoring your Tamagotchis for long periods of time.

my tamagotchi forever

How should I spend all this loot?

Gems are an odd bird in that they don’t do an awful lot besides buy certain special foods (needed to evolve certain Tamagotchis) and speed up certain unlocks. Save them for the food. Everything else can be done in its own time.

Coins are important to accomplish your end goal of finishing your scrapbook and getting Tamagotchis in every career. You need coins to unlock costumes and new features in Tama Town. Carefully keep an eye on the next “smallest” expense you’ll have, save up for it, then spend, all the while making sure you have enough to buy outfits if you need them when your Tamagotchis become adults. It’s a delicate balancing act.

Keep on raising those Tamagotchis and soon you’ll have a full book for free! Don’t forget to check out our guide on unlocking every Tamagotchi in the game, too.

If you’ve logged into Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp in the last week, you’ve probably heard some hullabaloo about Fortune Cookies and been accosted by a small raccoon trying to sell you things. Just another day in the world of Animal Crossing, right? But if you’ve ignored the sales pitch so far, it might still be worth your while to find out what Fortune Cookies are. With Fortune Cookies, new, rare furniture and clothing items become available to you. Maybe you want, for example, an adorable pastry shop in your camp?

pocket camp

What are Fortune Cookies?

Fortune Cookies are loot boxes. Wait, come back! I know, loot boxes. But Nintendo has had a delicate touch on Pocket Camp by allowing players plenty of opportunities to get Fortune Cookies without paying real money.

Every Fortune Cookie contains a random piece of furniture or clothing from a particular set. Each item has a specified rarity based on how often it appears inside the cookie. If you want to collect a full set of items, you’ll have to go through a lot of Fortune Cookies, because duplicates will happen.

How do I get Fortune Cookies?

There are many ways to get Fortune Cookies. You’ll sometimes receive some as rewards for daily or timed goals, or as login bonuses (there were three available this week). But the main way to get them is by purchasing them from a kiosk in the shop area.

Fortune Cookies cost 50 Leaf Tickets apiece. You can also purchase them for 5000 gold, though only two options for cookies will be available at that cost at a time and they will rotate through. If you’ve been hoarding Bells and want to spend piles of them on a specific set, you’ll have to keep an eye on what’s available.

pocket camp

What’s inside a Fortune Cookie?

Lots of things! You can check each Fortune Cookie before purchasing it to see what kinds of furniture and clothing are inside, as well as the rarity of them. Rotating special sets of Fortune Cookies will have limited-time sets of furniture in them that you won’t be able to get anywhere else, and that will go away at a later time as new Fortune Cookies replace them in the store.

In addition, cheaper clothing and furniture cookies will appear in the store for 500 Bells apiece at different times. These cheap cookies can include a much wider variety of items that can be acquired or crafted elsewhere, so they aren’t as special. But it’s still nice to get a treat once in awhile, right?

pocket camp

What are Stamp Cards?

Every time you purchase a Fortune Cookie of any kind, you get a stamp on a stamp card Tommy gives you when you first reach his cookie kiosk. Full cards can be traded for individual furniture rewards, allowing you to target specific furniture pieces you don’t have yet and complete a collection.

Essentially, if you’re after a coveted item and keep getting duplicates, don’t fret. Buy enough cookies, and you’ll be able to get the specific piece you want.

pocket camp

Should I spend real money on Fortune Cookies?

Well, that’s up to you. $3.99 will get you two Fortune Cookies in Pocket Camp, but that can add up really darn quick. Leaf Tickets and Bells come easily enough in this game and there are few enough other meaningful uses for them that you can afford to spend.

Avoid using Leaf Tickets to speed up builds, and consider Fortune Cookies to be investments in furniture the same way you’d think of them if you were buying a specific piece from the store. They can take time if you want a specific piece or an entire set, but if you’re playing regularly, this won’t be a problem. Plan out which sets you want, save up your points, and don’t be afraid to dump extra furniture off with Gulliver for other rewards if you keep getting duplicates.

Good fortune, campers!

Wurmple. Such a simple, non-descript worm Pokemon. Generation 3’s Caterpie or Weedle, only somehow even less impressive. But if you look at its evolution line in Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire, later games, or Pokemon GO, you’ll notice something curious. Wurmple can evolve into either Silcoon or Cascoon, which then evolve into Beautifly and Dustox, respectively. No stone, special item, or time of day is required to make this happen. So how does one acquire one or the other?

In Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire, this evolution was seemingly random, and determined by a number value that set the Wurmple’s personality. Players could use the personality listed to make a call as to which way it would evolve, but could not control it except by capturing more Wurmple. In Pokemon GO, Pokemon don’t have any personality. For months, people have tested out various methods of getting Wurmple to evolve into either Pokemon, hoping for a definitive answer in the same way Eevee could be manipulated with nicknames. How can one choose one’s Wurmple evolution?

Wait, Wurmple?

Wurmple is a relatively weak, somewhat common bug-type Pokemon in Pokemon GO. It’s not good for all that much besides filling up your Pokedex and evolving into other things. Its evolutions, Silcoon, Beautifly, Cascoon, and Dustox, are needed to finish the Hoenn Pokedex, making Wurmple worth your time to catch for the candies. With its common appearance and only taking 12 candies to evolve, you can spam evolve it for lots of experience just like you’ve probably done in the past with Pidgey and Rattata.

Why would I want Beautifly or Dustox?

Pokedex slots filled? That’s probably it. Though either one is a top-level evolution, they both have relatively weak bug-type moves. Beautifly can learn Infestation and Air Cutter, while Dustox can learn Confusion and Sludge Bomb. Don’t worry, you won’t be using these guys in raid battles against Mewtwo anytime soon.

Silcoon, Cascoon, Beautifly, and Dustox also have the rare attribute of being unable to be caught anywhere in the wild. The only possible way to obtain them and put them in your Pokedex is by evolving Wurmple. If you want to finish your Pokedex, you’ll need 12 candies to reach the cocoon stages, and 50 apiece for the bigger bugs. That comes out to a minimum of 124 candies, and more if you accidentally duplicate evolutionary lines.

Still, if you’re trying to finish that Pokedex but keep getting stuck with the same side of the evolution tree, how can you get one or the other?

How can I choose?

Unfortunately, the answer is: you can’t! Players have tested Wurmple’s evolution lines for months and determined that which Pokemon it evolves into is 100% random. You’ll have to keep catching Wurmple after Wurmple and evolving if you keep getting the same, unwanted evolution again or again.

There is no way you can choose its evolution with certain nicknames or (as was rumored) evolving it at certain times of day, evolving certain genders, evolving in certain weather, or based on certain IVs (individual values, a meta term you don’t need to know to evolve your Wurmple). You cannot capture either of its evolutions in the wild, so this random factor is the only possible way to do this. Fortunately, once you make it past the Wurmple phase, the guesswork is over. Silcoon will always evolve into Beautifly, and Cascoon will always evolve into Dustox no matter what.

Best of luck collecting your fancy Hoenn bugs! On the bright side of all this, if you’re trying to grind EXP with evolutions, you’ll probably end up with both of Wurmple’s evolutionary trees ready in no time without sweating it. You can also push that Field Research for some good bug-catching missions to go with your new Wurmple-seeking quest!
